After months of speculation and a " long process" as per the club, the Montreal Impact has finally made it official that Ignacio Piatti has joined the club. The Argentinean offensive midfielder is the club's third designated player in its MLS history. After Hernan Bernardello's departure to Cruz Azul, the Impact will only have 2 designated players on the pitch.
The deal will be finalized upon receipt of his international transfer certificate and passing a medical exam. Piatti will only join the club after San Lorenzo's run in the Copa Libertadores. Piatti might come to Montreal as a champion but will not don a bleu-blanc-noir jersey before the month of August.
Piatti has previously played in Europe with AS Saint-Étienne, Ligue 1 in Italy's Serie A with Lecce.
Montreal Impact sporting director Nick De Santis
To be able to get another DP is another important step for the club. It was a long process but we're excited to bring him here. We've said since last year that we wanted an offensive midfielder and we are adding today a very good player, at the prime of his career, who was a catalyst for San Lorenzo in their last championship and their run in Champions League. He's very motivated to play in MLS and to be in Montreal.
