What is success for CF Montréal in this year’s MLS Playoffs? The question that all fans of le CFM have been asking themselves.
This year’s take a new importance as well, seeing CFM is losing two key players in Djordje Mihailovic and Ismael Kone this winter. It’s why this time around the playoffs have an even bigger significance for fans and this organization.
I do think the minimum as the second placed team in the Eastern conference has to be the conference finals. Philadelphia could be the opponent there and in the last two matchups we have a fair picture about what we could expect in this potential showdown in the East finals.
A 1-1 draw and a 2-1 loss, close and even matches in which Djordje was not yet in form. That could be favorable this time around as the club is healthy and have a defined style now. Wilfried Nancy has to be cognizant of the way to beat this high flying Philly side is with discipline and hitting when you know it will hurt, not at a whim.
These playoffs will be key for the future of the club as the recruitment needs to be spot on and the players who are leaving will want to leave with heads held high as CFM look for success here.
The bar will be the Eastern Conference finals and that should be the expectation of all fans that CFM must get to or else this season will be a failed one.
