CF Montréal: Roster Decisions + Free Agents to Watch

What will the future hold for le CFM.

MLS: Orlando City SC at CF Montreal Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

The team has made its roster decision and there are some curuos ones among the bunch.

Announced this week, the club has declined options on the following payers:

The Club will not exercise its option for goalkeepers Sebastian Breza, James Pantemis, defenders Zorhan Bassong, Keesean Ferdinand, Karifa Yao, midfielder Tomas Giraldo and forward Bjorn Johnsen.

Also, the contract of midfielder Victor Wanyama as well as the loan agreement of defender Gabriele Corbo will both expire at the end of 2022.

A few surprises as the club have made clear they wil attempt to re-sign at least one of the goal keepers. Among that the Wanyama question will linger as he seems set to depart, but could be brought back.

One more curious player left off was Yao as he had done well in the CPL. We’ll see how the club respond to the needs now that the first phase of off season starts and free agency opens.

Speaking of free agency, here are six players to keep an eye on.

A pair of keepers to start as Joe Bendik and Clint Irwin, both players who could play up to MLS level and in Irwin’s case, have experience in Canada and would not need a huge adjustment period.

Two more are Alexander Callens and Franco Escobar, two players who can fill out that middle of the roster and really stabilize the team.

Final two, Jonathan Osorio and Joao Moutinho, both players who can do the job at this level and even increase output in their respective positions. Plus, taking Osorio from TFC would be great.

Let us know your reactions or picks for Free Agency.
