Still on the lookout for an experienced central defender, the Montreal Impact seem to be close to getting its 26-30 year-old center back. He seems to be neither Italian nor Argentinean and could be hailing from Belgium. Reports from RDS and Philip Harmeling (Canadian-German player agent) have confirmed that Montreal will announce the signing of Laurent Ciman.

One fact that has been confirmed by multiple reports is that Ciman, a Belgian international, is leaving his current club, Standard Liège. Other reports in Belgium have also linked Ciman with Swiss club, Sion, which confirms his imminent but not his final destination.

Laurent Ciman was also in Brazil with the Red Devils during the 2014 World Cup, behind in the pecking order to only Daniel Van Buyten and Vincent Kompany. His current pedigree is quite interesting as he played in 20 games in the Jupiler Pro League, 4 Champions League Qualification games and 6 Europa League games during the 2014-2015 season.
