MLS Mock Draft: Impact select Michael Calderon with 37th pick

The attacking midfielder has already started training with MLS teams and might be more pro ready than his draft position suggests.

Costa Rica-born Michael Calderon has an interesting profile for the Montreal Impact to add more depth to the attacking midfield sector. Having played alongside Devon Sandoval and Blake Smith at the University of New Mexico, his profile can definitely interest Frank Klopas and Matt Jordan.

Having trained with Real Salt Lake during the summer, why not take a chance on a young midfielder with international experience with the Costa Rican U-20 team? More on the older side, at 26, his age might translate into maturity.

What the Impact will be looking for in the draft: I can definitely see the Impact trade away one of their second round draft picks for international spots or to upgrade in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft.

Who the experts say the Impact will pick: The central defender route is still the most safe one that many experts are taking for the Impact, especially with Frank Klopas at the helm; even though Matt Jordan has increased Draft duties as technical director.

Why I'm invariably wrong: Calderon is a crapshoot and the Montreal Impact will trade away one of its second round pick. It only makes sense to see them trade away a pick it has received from Real Salt Lake after trading Justin Braun,

Why I'm smarter than the pundits: Trust me I am not but the Calderon-Smith connection could be interesting if Blake Smith is still in the club's long term plans.
