Two goal performances from Di Vaio and Bernier gives the Montreal Impact a 4-2 win over the New England Revolution

The game could not have started in more dramatic fashion as the New England Revolution played one man down for most of the game. The 4-2 win was a great outcome from the visitors as the Montreal Impact take back the Eastern Conference lead with 4 points.

Within 10 minutes, both head coaches' perspective on the game changed when Matt Reis took down Marco Di Vaio in the box. Reis was red-carded by the referee, who deemed that the veteran goalkeeper denied Di Vaio of a scoring chance. This debate about penalty calls and such will have to wait for another day but one thing is clear: a foul is a foul no matter what the context is.

Patrice Bernier steps up to the plate as he always does and stutter-steps his way into the ball and beats the goalkeeper. With one-man down, the road to a comeback for the home team was not impossible but already difficult. As expected, the preview headline for the game was Experienced Impact vs Young Revolution.

Diego Fagundez did not disappoint when he got the 1-1 goal at the 26th minute. A nice tic-tac play between Fagundez with Dimitry Imbongo gives space to the tall striker, just inside the box. Jeb Brovsky goes to tackle the ball away from Imbongo but his attempt directs it toward a streaking Fagundez, who followed the play.

Getting the ball directly at his feet, Fagundez tapped the ball with strength into the net, left open by Troy Perkins who did not expect the unlucky direction off Brovsky's tackle.

The momentum could have shifted towards the Revolution, especially after discarding the Impact's defence Fagundez's goal. But the experienced Impact get another penalty call when Felipe Martins is fouled by Jose Goncalves on the left far side of the box. As controversial as Jay Heaps and the Revs wanted the PK call to be, Bernier does it again and scores his second goal of the game, at the 33rd minute.

As the first half was about to come to an end, Marco Di Vaio makes sure to remind everyone about his presence. Hassoun Camara delivers a precise long pass to Di Vaio, who controls the ball inside the box. A.J Soares makes the mistake of sub-par marking and gets beaten by Di Vaio with a change direction.

With time and space, the Italian striker beats Bobby Shuttleworth and halftime is whistled shortly after.

Those who do not learn from history  are doomed to repeat it

And Soares did not learn. Camara finds Di Vaio, at the 55th minute, and history does repeats itself. He swings and jives around Soares and take his time to score his 17th league-leading goal. Di Vaio stakes his claim to the MLS goal scoring crown as much as the Impact stake its claim on a top spot towards the MLS playoffs.

Kelyn Rowe cuts the lead at two when he scores a beautiful curling shot at the 76th minute. That goal did not generate a comeback from the Revolution as the Impact held on for the win and is well alive and happy on top of the Eastern Conference.
