Gold Cup : No Montreal Impact Players selected and It's A Good thing

Patrice Bernier was not selected among the 22-man roster of the Canadian National Team, led by interim head coach Collin Miller. Not selected with Canada since the debacle in Honduras, Bernier would have deserved a call-up but a choice was made and it seems that both sides have an unspoken understanding.

It is good news for the Montreal Impact as the club will not lose one of the most (if not the most) important player in its squad. Patrice Bernier initially reacted, to the microphone of Mount Royal Soccer and Soccer Sans Frontieres, after the initial 35-man preliminary roster came out 2 weeks ago

Notable omissions from the final list are Dwayne De Rosario, Atiba Hutchinson and Andre Hainault who were in the intial 35-man preliminary roster. The new leader seems to be Will Johnson who represents Canada's hope to lead a younger squad to some kind of result at the Gold Cup. Young players include Toronto FC's Jonathan Osorio, Kyle Bekker, Doneil Henry and Ashtone Morgan. You can also add Russell Teibert of the Vancouver Whitecaps.

As per the Canadian Soccer Association

Canada will announce its final Gold Cup roster (up to 23 players) on Friday 28 June in conjuction with CONCACAF's announcement of rosters for all 12 teams in the tournament. Players will begin arriving into camp in Oxnard on Wednesday 26 June.
