Emanuel Maciel is looking forward to MLS matters getting under way later this month.
“I was very happy with my first season, especially the number of minutes and matches I played,” the 24-year-old from Buenos Aires province said speaking through an interpreter.
During off-season the San Lorenzo loanee had surgery on a hernia problem, which affected his form in the latter half of 2020’s truncated season.
“The hernia problem carried on for a few months and the injury slowed me down. I wasn’t able to perform at the level I wanted to. But I’ve had a full pre-season this year, feel healthy and I’m ready to give my best for the club.”
Maciel who knows new signing Joaquin Torres from playing lower league football in Argentina is keen to help his compatriot settle in Montreal. “Joaquin is a great player whose skills can adapt to MLS. I learned a lot about the club and the city and I also want to open the same doors for Joaquin.”
For his part, Maciel identifies Samuel Piette and Romell Quioto as the players who, “helped me a lot.”
“And during the offseason I continued with English lessons and understand the explanations much better. A teammate can help me if I miss something.”
Emanuel Maciel will be looking to force his way through increased competition into Montreal’s midfield. A regular spot may be harder than ever to claim, but now back to full fitness and with the team set for a busy schedule, there will be opportunities for the player who arrived as part of the ‘Piatti to San Lorenzo’ deal.
