Bayern Munich annihilated Bundesliga rivals Schalke 04 this evening in the Allianz Arena.
Remarkably it was the newly-crowned European Champions’ 22nd win in succession. They now have recorded 30 wins and one draw since they last tasted defeat back in December 2019. And even on that occasion, they lead at Borussia Mounchengladbach, before succumbing to a late, late goal scored in the 92nd minute.

Serge Gnabry claimed a hat-trick, and Leroy Sane, one on his debut. The other goals came from Robert Lewandowski, Leon Goretzka, Thomas Muller and 17-year-old Jamal Musiala.

Bayern had hoped to have a crowd of 7,500 for their season opener - with clubs from some states allowed to have fans this weekend - but their aspirations were blocked by Munich’s mayor.

The margin of victory was the biggest any team has managed on the opening weekend in Bundesliga history.
