Holland manager Ronald Koeman is set to replace dismissed Barcelona manager Quique Setien. An announcement is expected sometime over the next 24 hours.
Former Real Betis boss Setien, 61, appointed only in January lost La Liga title to Real Madrid and oversaw the Catalans’ record defeat in European competition against Bayern Munich. He was in charge for only 25 matches.
According to BBC Spanish Football expert, Guillem Balague, Koeman will be given a 2-year contract.
Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, often touted as a future Real Madrid manager, was also contacted despite his links to cross-town rivals Espanol, but Barca is about to go with their former captain in Koeman.
It will be a difficult task for the Dutch manager; Barcelona are reportedly a club in disarray with an unmovable debt in the region of 700m euros.
Meanwhile a surprise name has emerged as Koeman’s potential successor as manager of the Dutch national team. It’s been reported this evening by FOX Sports presenter Jan Joost van Gangelen that former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has thrown his hat in the ring to replace Koeman.
