Borussia Dortmund are increasingly hopeful of completing the signing of young Birmingham City midfielder, Jude Bellingham.

Last August, Bellingham broke the record of former England striker Trevor Francis as Birmingham’s youngest player, when he made his first team debut only 38 days into his 17th year, scoring the winner against Stoke. He has made 35 appearances since.

Manchester United were keeping close tabs on the England u-17 international, but may be left to watch as the player follows in the footsteps of another United target, Jadon Sancho, who could yet end up at Old Trafford.

Dortmund feel they can use the example of how Sancho’s career flourished after he moved to them from Manchester City at the age of 17 to persuade Bellingham to follow suit.
