It was expected, but it is good news all the same.
21-year-old Finnish international winger Lassi Lappalainen will be remaining as a Montreal Impact player until the end of 2020, representing an extension of his loan deal with Bologna FC 1909.
The Impact made the announcement this afternoon and Sporting Director Olivier Renard expressed his satisfaction through this statement...
“We are really pleased with Lassi’s loan extension and we’re happy to have him stay with us. He is the type of player with a profile we like in our roster, meaning a young player with huge potential. He showed his qualities in MLS since last July and we put a lot of trust in him. Lassi feels good in this city and wanted to remain in this club.”
Lappalainen joined the Impact on July 25, 2019, at the age of 20, and scored a brace on his debut with Montreal two days later, a 4-0 win over the Philadelphia Union. He went on to score five goals adding one assist in 12 MLS games, including eight starts.
He also became a national champion, as part of Impact’s successful Canadian Championship side and helped his country qualify for their first-ever major finals tournament.
It’s certainly been quite a year for the young Finn, who wasted no time in showing off his talent in his adopted city of Montreal.
Long may it continue...
