Piatti safely through too...

It was probably the closest poll we’ve seen.

The lead swung towards Arnaud, then back to Bojan, before the pendulum again swung back to the American international. Several times the lead in this contest changed hands, but it was Davy Arnaud, the Impact’s first MLS captain and goalscorer who held the ascendency at the closing of the poll.

His 52-48% vote success over the Spaniard guarantees him a place in the last eight where Arnaud will meet the Impact’s second captain in MLS, Patrice Bernier.

The battle of the captains will begin tomorrow evening.

Ignacio Piatti also sealed his place in the quarter-finals after winning 88% of the votes over Finnish international and current club captain, Jukka Raitala. It certainly was Captain’s Day today in the competition, with all four men having held the role at the Impact at one time or another.

Nacho now meets Marco Di Vaio in the quarters.
