Evan Bush and Ambroise Oyongo re-appear in our competition for the first time since the opening day, when Bush topped the Cameroonian in the Group A poll, winning 37% of votes to Oyongo’s 31%.
Bush’s opponent is former Fiorentina stalwart Marco Donadel who, in finishing second to Saphir Taider in Group H, recorded the highest percentage vote for a group runner-up (34%).
This could be another tight race to see who secures the quarter-final spot and Bush’s longevity may provide him with the edge.
Today’s other match-up throws together two African international players in Saphir Taider (Algeria) and Ambroise Oyongo (Cameroon).
Taider emerged from a group containing Donadel, Felipe and Diallo, while Oyongo was runner-up to Bush in Group A, but beat both Alejandro Silva and most significantly fan favourite Samuel Piette for second-place.
Both of today’s match-ups on paper appear to be close-run affairs with perhaps the all-African clash being the hardest one of all to call.
Hassoun Camara awaits the winner of the Taider/Oyongo clash in the last eight, while Didier Drogba lies in wait for the winner of the Bush/Donadel contest.
