Patrice Bernier advanced to the quarter finals of the competition propelled by an 83% share of the fan vote over Swiss World Cup star Blerim Dzemaili.
The margin of victory is probably harsh on the Swiss, but it further underlines the popularity Bernier enjoys amongst fans of his hometown team.
Patrice will face with Bojan or Davy Arnaud in the last eight.
It was a similar story in the evening’s other Round of 16 face-off, with Marco Di Vaio polling a powerful 88% to Justin Mapp’s 12%. Again it seems harsh, on the American this time, but the format of a linear first-past-the-post vote can throw up such scenarios.
Di Vaio will meet Nacho Piatti in the quarter-final, if as expected the Argentinian gets past Jukka Raitala in the round of 16.
