Montreal Impact’s Greatest-ever MLS-player - Round of 16, Day 3...

It’s the turn of Bojan, Arnaud, Piatti and Raitala.

This evening it’s the turn of Bojan who with only 13, is the player with the least number of IMFC appearances in our competition, and Davy Arnaud who played a full two seasons at Stade Saputo as captain. Quite a gap between the significant contributions of each player, but of course it’s the sheer quality possessed by Bojan that renders him a serious contender.

Bojan topped a group that included Felipe, Duka and Sagna polling 43% of the vote, while Arnaud’s 8% (the lowest of all R16 qualifiers) can be put into perspective in that he was up against Ignacio Piatti.

Bojan will be the favourite, but as we’ve seen before IMFC fans generally stay loyal to those who’ve provided good service to their club, so Arnaud’s chances shouldn’t be discounted too prematurely.

Chicago Fire v Montreal Impact
Davy Arnaud displaying his typical all-action style against Chicago Fire, will find it difficult to oust Bojan in the Round of 16.

The other match-up between Ignacio Piatti and Jukka Raitala may look like a foregone conclusion, however that will have nothing to do with Raitala’s popularity or performances since he joined the Impact.

The Finn will not be without his supporters, but given the regard in which the Argentinian is held by an adoring Montreal soccer public, it’s incredibly difficult to imagine Raitala will get close in this contest, never mind prevail.

The winner of the Bojan v Arnaud tie will advance to the quarter-finals and face Patrice Bernier, while the winner of the Piatti v Raitala match-up will meet Marco Di Vaio.

The prospect of a Piatti v Di Vaio head to head will be a mouthwatering one for most fans, some of which are likely to be gripped in the horns of a dilemma, when it comes to making their selection.
