Laurent Ciman, the General, carried off the honours in Group E polling 39% of the vote, with Argentinian Andres Romero (31%) taking second spot to also secure a round of 16 place.
Former Marseille centre-back Rod Fanni ran Romero close for much of the poll but ended up 9 percentage points short of the Argentinian.
Another Argentinian, Maxi Urruti, came in 4th with 8% of the fan vote.
Ciman will meet a player he formerly partnered in central defence in the round of 16, Hassoun Camara, while Andres Romero will be hoping he stays lucky when he faces Didier Drogba at the same stage.
Voting in Group F opened a couple of hours ago, and already there’s strong support for Marco di Vaio who holds a commanding early lead from Blerim Dzemaili in a distant second.
