In the very recent 2020 Season Preview by MLSSoccer.com Montreal Impact do not greatly impress the media men, with none of the seven surveyed anticipating a higher than 9th place finish in the East.

In fact, two of them, Marcelo Balboa (Univision) and Matt Doyle (MLSSoccer.com) think Montreal will occupy basement spot in the Conference.

Frederic Lord and Charlie Davies were kindest plumping for a ninth place finish for the bleu/blanc/noir.

You can see where the ‘experts’ are coming from with the Impact finishing 9th, 7th and 9th in the last three seasons. If Impact fans are not more optimistic than those who write fine words on the game, you can rest assured they do expect better after three years of having to get the golf clubs out early.

Another failure is sure to see anger added to disappointment come the fall.

Just for interest, here’s how the panellists went in respect of Montreal’s finishing position in the Eastern Conference.

  • Ben Baer: 12th in East
  • Marcelo Balboa (Univision): 13th in East
  • Calen Carr: 10th in East
  • Charlie Davies: 9th in East
  • Matt Doyle: 13th in East
  • Kristian Jack (TSN): 11th in East
  • Frederic Lord (TVA Sports): 9th in East
