Twitter for the last hour has been awash with breaking news suggesting Impact’s Ignacio Piatti is on his way to play for Banfield in Argentina.
The Buenos Aires-based club is halfway through its season in the Argentinian Super League, and lies in 17th position, out of 24 clubs.
Confirmation has still not come from Montreal Impact, but social media has exploded with the news.
After 163 appearances an 79 goals (all competitions), it seems Montreal’s flagship player is on his way.
There was always doubt and conjecture about the player remaining in Montreal for 2020, even before he mysteriously failed to attend the end of season post-mortem press conference last November.
It’s been ‘THE BIG IF’ of the close-season, and if today’s widely-reported developments ring true, not without good reason.
