Suspended Rooney Ruled Out Against Impact!

Bad news for Rooney fans, but the Impact won’t be shedding too many tears.

The MLS Disciplinary Committee has suspended and fined DC United’s Wayne Rooney for violent conduct in the 21st minute the game against New York Red Bulls, one week ago.

The former Manchester United and England striker received his additional one-match suspension after serving an initial suspension for receiving a red card last Saturday, when DC United lost to Philadelphia Union.

The men from the capital generally look a different side when their talismanic striker is missing, so this could spell encouraging news for Montreal’s chances of overhauling sliding DC United in the race for play-off spots.

If this does prove a fillip for the Impact, then the men from Montreal must also seek to improve recent form and confidence levels and not underestimate DC United when they visit Stade Saputo this coming Saturday evening.

It promises to quite a contest. They cannot be counting their chickens, but should the Impact get three points this evening against Vancouver Whitecaps, and follow up with a win on Saturday evening, it propels them into the driving seat for post-season football, with four games to play.
