The Impact faced adversity on Saturday and not in the way one would expect, yes their opponents are higher than them in the standings but it was a forgone conclusion that Impact would lose the match up. IMFC and Philly are very even opponents, I’d even go so far to say the Impact have the edge coming off a big win against New York and more to fight for heading towards the playoffs.
The adversity the Impact faced was that of the league experts saying they were not contenders to be in the playoffs and they answered in fashion in their win against Philly. They proved the doubters wrong.
Impact went down 0-1 to Philly in the 11th minute and reacted the way they should bouncing back instead of folding. They not only got control of the game but managed to put two up before the break. One perfectly executed counter goal and one goal that showed why you always go for the rebound.
Coming back from the break the Impact continued pushing hard up field and Quincy managed to get his first goal since August 12th 2016. Quincy who has been a dominant force for the Impact since his arrival fighting to get the ball to his teammates and be part of the goal creation.
The final goal came again off the counter, where Silva and Piatti showed their dominance and chemistry combining for the final goal of the match.
On Saturday, they are set to face off against 3rd place in the east, NYCFC. This match up will be in front of an expected sellout crowd, only the second one this season. The Impact need to keep getting points from here until the end of the season to maintain their position and maybe even surpass Philly.
This match up is not out of reach for the Impact since they are on a good streak right now and NYCFC is struggling to get a win; their last win dates back to August 12th. If they can maximize on this game and get 3 points, they may find themselves in a much more favorable position depending on the outcome of other games in the league in the upcoming week.
