The 2018 Canadian Championship introduced a new format this year, under which the champions of the League 1 of Ontario, Oakville Blue Devils, and the champions of Quebec, AS Blainville, faced off. The winners of this two-leg match up will go on to face the Ottawa Fury.
The first leg, which was played in Laval, Quebec, was quite a match. While AS Blainville had the early advantage, which made it seem like they would runaway with this game, Oakville settled in and played a good end of first half and a solid second half. Although, the pressure applied by Blainville finally paid off in the added minutes with an incredible bicycle kick goal by Pierre-Rudolph Mayard (see below).

It was enjoyable to see how many supporters came out to catch this battle of the North between two teams that do not get as much exposure as the other clubs competing in the Canadian Championship. The second leg will take place, next week, on June 13th.
