Impact Play to 1-1 Draw Versus Real Salt Lake

A dominant first half display leads to a draw away to Real Salt Lake

Russ Isabella-USA TODAY Sports

A draw away to a very good Real Salt Lake squad should be and is a great result for an Impact team looking to find its footing moving further into the season.

However, I can't help but feel as if the Impact should have done better on the night. In what was a dominant display from the Impact in the first half, some might even say their best half of soccer all season, they were let down by a poor challenge in the penalty area from Callum Mallace.

This game also marked the return of Laurent Ciman from the European Championships, displaying the same defensive dominance along side Victor Cabrera that Impact fans have come to expect.

Great game from the Impact, I for one hope they build off of it for Wednesday's game against Portland.

Man of the Match: Victor Cabrera

Now that's the Victor Cabrera that I remember from last season!

What a game from the Argentine defender, making defensive stop after defensive stop, never allowing himself to be beat by a dangerous Real Salt Lake attack.

Much of his play could likely be credited to the presence of Laurent Ciman as his defensive partner, but nonetheless Cabrera played a fantastic game, a game that he has not had many of this season yet.

Honorable Mention: Harry Shipp

Good for Harry Shipp.

Arriving with much hype from the Chicago Fire prior to the season starting, Shipp has yet to live up to expectations from the Impact faithful.

That may be through no fault of his own however, as many writers here at MRS, including myself, believe Shipp has yet to be utilized in his most optimal position.

With that said, Shipp was able to finish an early goal off of a Laurent Ciman free kick, and steadily improve his overall game throughout the ninety minutes.

Hopefully he is able to build off of this performance and move forward with supreme confidence.

Most Surprising Performance: N/A

Collectively a fantastic game from the Impact. Each and every player played to what I expected them to play to.

Most Disappointing Performance: Callum Mallace

Why?

Why on earth do you even attempt that tackle in the box?

It is just beyond me why anybody on this planet, let alone a professional soccer player would even attempt that tackle.

Get well soon, Marco Donadel.

But that's just one man's opinion, let me know yours by leaving a comment down below!
