The season is over for the Montreal Impact and the club's does not stop after this week's second post-mortem of the season. After the players and Mauro Biello, it's up to Joey Saputo and Adam Braz to deliver their version of the State of the Union.
Part of that work will be to draft two lists in preparation for the 2017 MLS Expansion Draft: the protected list of the unprotected. Because on Tuesday December 13th 2016, Minnesota United FC and Atlanta United FC will be picking 5 players each from the rest of the MLS clubs.
Here is the list of a potential protected list that
- Evan Bush
- Hassoun Camara
- Ambroise Oyongo
- Laurent Ciman
- Victor Cabrera
- Patrice Bernier
- Marco Donadel
- Matteo Mancosu
- Ignacio Piatti
- Johan Venegas
- Donny Toia
The dilemma comes in the choice of protecting either Venegas or Toia and not protect Dominic Oduro.
The list of available players would be
- Kyle Bekker
- Hernán Bernardello
- Amadou Dia
- Calum Mallace
- Dominic Oduro
- Andrés Romero
- Michael Salazar
- Harry Shipp
The biggest loss for the Montreal Impact would be Dominic Oduro as he would definitely be picked up by either Minnesota or Atlanta, as he combines MLS experience, proven track record and his love of pizza (not an official draft criteria).
