Report : Ottawa Fury to become USL affiliate of the Impact, FC Montreal’s future in doubt

The Impact look to be heading to another direction

Soccer: TD Place Stadium Women's World Cup venue Marc DesRosiers-USA TODAY Sports

After 2 years in the USL, the Montreal Impact might be taking another direction with its dedicated USL club, FC Montreal.

As reports started to pop-up, it seems to be the beginning of the end of the FC Montreal as we know it. The reasoning behind that (speculated) position might be financial though Joey Saputo has already heavily invested into its academy program and FC Montreal represented the culmination of that program of excellence.

Football-wise, how will the Impact’s best prospects grow and develop? We might go from 20+ players from the Academy , composing FC Montreal, to a handful that would be sent on loan to the Ottawa Fury, that has just joined the USL.

As part of the broadcast team of the FC Montreal home games (on the USL youtube page), I do have some stake in this change but it is quite minimal. What hurts even more is to see a program changes so drastically, even if it might be for the better good of the organization.
