Impact lose key player in Donny Toia

MLS: Montreal Impact at Toronto FC Kevin Sousa-USA TODAY Sports

The Montreal Impact have lost Donny Toia in the 2016 MLS expansion draft to new MLS club Atlanta United FC, who was selected him as the 1st pick. Atlanta and Minnesota United are the two new clubs joining the MLS in the 2017 season. Each team has 5 selections and each MLS club can only lose one player at most.

Toia was a great and useful player for the Montreal Impact but due to injury in the 2016 season, it limited him to only 17 appearances and 15 starts. Toia played in 48 regular season games for the Impact and collected only one goal and two assists.

Donny only played for the Impact for two seasons, but his work ethic and speed is was made Impact fans love him. Atlanta has picked a very solid fullback in Toia but with this loss Montreal have acquired New York Red Bulls defender Chris Duval from Minnesota. Chris Duval was selected in the expansion draft by Minnesota but then traded to Montreal.
