The Impact has just released the list of players available for selection in the 2016 Expansion Draft. The Expansion Draft will see both expansion clubs Atlanta United and Minnesota United FC to select up to five players each from the list of 259 available players.
The Montreal Impact can protect up to 11 players. The rest of the players would be available to be selected by either Atlanta or Minnesota. Take note that once one player has been selected from a team’s unprotected roster, that team may not lose any further players (all additional players from that team become ineligible for selection)
The Un-Protected List
- Kyle Bekker
- Patrice Bernier
- Didier Drogba
- Eric Kronberg (Free Agent)
- Calum Mallace
- Dominic Oduro (Free Agent)
- Lucas Ontivero
- Harry Shipp
- Donny Toia
- Amadou Dia
- Kyle Fisher
- Michael Salazar
Keep in mind that Generation Adidas players (who did not graduate at the end of the 2016 season) and Homegrown Players on a club’s off-budget roster are automatically protected and do not count against a team’s 11 protected roster spots.
Though, Designated Players are not automatically protected. If a Designated Player has a no-trade clause in his contract, then the club must protect him in the Expansion Draft.
