The Montreal Impact central defender spent his 2014 summer in Brazil where the Red Devils challenged Lionel Messi and Argentina in the World Cup quarter-finals. Laurent Ciman has been with the Belgian national team for over 2 years and has been an integral part of Marc Wilmots' group.
As Ciman will miss the Impact's bout against Orlando City SC over the weekend, the veteran defender received undeniable support from Belgian legend and head coach, Marc Wilmots, when he was asked on his choice.
Marc Wilmots
We sent two scouts [to watch Ciman play] and received DVDs. He did not change, as he was with Standard. We cannot evaluate the level of competition [MLS] over two games but I doubt that Ciman became bad in just 2 months.
The good news about Wilmots' faith in Ciman is that he sees enough quality to use him if needed during a game. But the ex-Schalke 04 striker is also a fan of the player's work ethic and mindset. In addition to that, Wilmots sees him as both a center back and right back.
As a 29-year old Belgian international with 9 caps, Laurent Ciman is looking more and more as a good catch for the Bleu-Blanc-Noir.
