Montreal Impact acquire Futty Danso from the Portland Timbers for second-round pick

The Impact felt it had enough attacking punch so it acquired defender Futty Danson from the Portland Timbers.

Steve Dykes-USA TODAY Sports

The Montreal Impact has just announced the acquisition of Gambian international defender Mamadou "Futty" Danso from the Portland Timbers in return for a second round pick in the 2015 SuperDraft. The 30-year-old center back has been part of the Timbers' franchise since 2009, playing both in USL-1 and MLS with Portland.

With 60-games in MLS, the veteran center back will bring experience and a physical aspect to the Impact (1m98). With a slew of experience center backs on the IR, Danso could easily find a spot in the Impact's starting lineup. Under Caleb Porter, the Gambian defender has struggled to find playing time.

Will this mean that Nelson Rivas will be let go after spending more time on the IR than playing?
