The MLS deadline for submitting a list of players to protect in this Wednesday's MLS Expansion Draft was today. The Montreal Impact protected 11 players from Orlando City SC and New York City FC. Though the trade that sent Jeb Brovsky to NYCFC might have included clause that would protect Montréal from losing a player to Jason Kreis' team.
Newcomer Marco Donadel doesn't need to be protected as the club did not receive his International Transfer Certificate
Frank Klopas
We would like to protect all our players and the choices were not easy. We hope that none of the players that we left unprotected will be selected.
The club confirms that Generation Adidas players, who have not been graduated at the end of 2014, as well as Homegrown players, are automatically protected. This means that Eric Miller (Generation Adidas) Academy products Karl W. Ouimette, Maxim Tissot, Wandrille Lefèvre, Maxime Crépeau, Jérémy Gagnon-Laparé, Anthony Jackson-Hamel and Louis Béland-Goyette will not need to be protected.
Here is the Impact's full protected list:
Goalkeeper: Evan Bush
Defender: Hassoun Camara
Midfielders: Patrice Bernier, Dilly Duka, Felipe, Calum Mallace, Justin Mapp, Ignacio Piatti, Andres Romero and Blake Smith
Forward: Jack McInerney
