A press conference , at 2pm EST today, has been announced by the Montreal Impact to announce the return of Patrice Bernier. The current captain was in negotiations with the club for a few weeks. Frank Klopas, Patrice Bernier and newly-appointed technical director, Adam Braz, will be at the press conference.
The recent signings of Marco Donadel and Nigel Reo-Coker added some doubts on the captain's potential return. But as days went by, reports were pointing at an imminent return of Patrice Bernier. The length of negotiations were starting to trouble media and fans alike.
Some were seeing it as an ominous sign and maybe even a lack of respect to the player that came back from Europe to play for his hometown club in MLS. But with the club having little room under the salary cap, it might not be shocking to hear that terms of the contract were harder to establish.
Will the announcement also include a future front office position for the 35-year old at the end of his contract? Whether Bernier will retire in one year or three years, it would be the perfect time to prepare his future and help to continue build the foundations of the club.
