Montreal Impact Expansion Draft : Who to protect

The 2014 expansion draft is a few days away

Jim O'Connor-USA TODAY Sports

The MLS expansion draft is schedule to happen on December 10th 2014. At SBNation Soccer, each MLS blog was asked to protect 11 players that Hudson River Blue (NYCFC blog) and The Mane Land (Orlando City FC blog) will not be able to select

Yes, it's a mock expansion draft!!!

Any player outside the protected list should be eligible for selection.

The list of players I have decided to protect for the Montreal Impact are:

Patrice Bernier
Evan Bush
Hassoun Camara
Felipe Martins
Dilly Duka
Calum Mallace
Justin Mapp
Jack McInerney
Ignacio Piatti
Andres Romero
Eric Miller Issey Nakajima-Farran

@Impact_Fan correctly noted that Eric Miller is automatically protected as he still has not graduated from the Generation Adidas Program. He has not played over 2000 minutes (at 1600 minutes approx) this season and the Impact will still benefit from the his GA status on the salary cap and can protect him from the 2014 MLS Expansion Draft.

Notable players not protected:

Issey Nakajima-Faran
Heath Pearce (still not under contract)
Adrian Lopez
Blake Smith
Krzysztof Karol
Gege Soriola

As the Impact made a trade with New York City FC as Jeb Brovsky went to the Big Apple, part of the deal included a clause in which NYCFC would not select a player from Montréal during the expansion draft.

The results of the expansion draft will be released on Monday, December 1st.
