Marco Schällibaum has erupted again and the Swiss volcano was suspended for the game against Toronto FC. This is the third time for the first year MLS head coach to get suspended. His previous suspensions were both against Sporting Kansas City in Kansas.
The MLS Disciplinary Committee took action when Schällibaum entered the pitch at the 89th minute against the Rapids. Assistant coach, Philippe Eullaffroy, was suspended for throwing a ball at Tony Cascio after a rough play on the sidelines between himself and Hassoun Camara.
Mauro Biello will be taking over head-coaching duties for the mid-week against Toronto FC.
Comments from Sporting Director , Nick De Santis
Marco had no bad intentions towards the referee or the players from the other team. We were really surprised to learn about the suspension as he was not ejected from the game, nor sanctioned by the referee.
We tried to appeal the suspension, but unfortunately the rule is quite clear. You cannot step onto the pitch, even if the distance from the coach's box to the touchline is very short at Stade Saputo.
