Patrice Bernier scores on a penalty kick , keeping his record flawless in PK. The Montreal Impact gets one point after a 1-1 tie against Chivas USA at Stade Saputo. The penalty kick came from a Sanna Nyassi run on the left edge of the box. The Gambian international seemed to have been tackled by Mario De Luna and a penalty kick was awarded.
The MLS Disciplinary Committee reviewed the action and suspended Sanna Nyassi for one game after an appeal was rejected. If the penalty kick was given under false pretences, does Chivas USA gets all 3-points? Obviously it will not happen but this brings up an interesting debate on post-game suspensions, which I agree with.
Press Release
The MLS Disciplinary Committee has issued a one-game suspension and fine to Montreal Impact midfielder Sanna Nyassi for his act of simulation in the 78th minute of the July 7 game against Chivas USA which had a material impact on the game. The Committee unanimously determined that Nyassi initially feigned contact by collapsing before the challenge from Chivas USA defender Mario De Luna, resulting in the awarding of a penalty kick (VIDEO).
Through the MLS Players Union, Nyassi submitted an appeal, and the Committee's decision was upheld. Nyassi will serve his suspension July 13 when the Impact travel to face the New York Red Bulls.
