Patrice Bernier was just named the MLS Player of the Month of August. In the same company as Thierry Henry and Chris Wondolowski, the home town '' hero '' was rewarded with his hard work throughout the season. A leader and catalyst of the Montreal Impact's flawless month of August, the stats backed up the midfielder to receive the honors: 3 goals, 3 assists in 4 games. He leads the team in goals (9) and is second in assists (8).
Bernier about the winning nomination
I am very pleased to have received this honour, but it is foremost a team reward for the success we've had throughout the last month. However, our team must continue to work and push hard to earn a playoff spot.
Jesse Marsch about the deserved honour
Patrice is very deserving of this honour. We know that he will continue his good form down the stretch and will help us make a final push for the playoffs.
Stephen Hart noticed Bernier's great form as he selected him for Canada's World Cup qualifiers on September 7th and 11th, versus Panama. The Canadian International was on Hart's radar for a while and it is no surprise to see him back in the fold with Team Canada. He will rekindle old connections with Dwayne De Rosario and Olivier Occean.
The statistical part of his success truly embodies the hard smart work of a player that started as an offensive midfielder early in his career. Showing a lot of 1-on-1 skills, a wide vision of the pitch and precise passing, the midfielder has been is only getting better with time. Having mastered the art of taking penalty kicks, he has shown strong physical and mental strengths, assets that Jesse Marsch can take to the bank in a difficult playoff race.
Merci Patrice et continue la bonne route.
