Alessandro Nesta is a Montreal Impact player: Not A Designated Player

Alessandro Nesta has joined the team at practice on July 5th to get to know everyone and it was confirmed by MLSSoccer beat writer Olivier Tremblay that Alessandro Nesta is not a Designated Player.

The Montreal Impact released an official press release that you can read here. He will officially join the roster as soon as his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) is received. No details about the deal have been released but we know that it's an 18-month contract and he is not a Designated Player. The Impact received first priority for Alessandro Nesta from the New York Red Bulls in exchange for allocation money. The New York Red Bulls previously put in a discovery claim on Alessandro Nesta.

Nothing Surprising. I was told that Nesta has officially signed an agreement with #IMFC a few minutes ago.

Nesta is also an Italian World Cup-winning player with Italy and is considered by many as one of the best centre backs in the world. He has appeared in over 200 games with AC Milan, and has over 70 selections with the Italian National Team.

Alessandro Nesta is a Montreal Impact player and joins Major League Soccer.

Chronological events of Alessandro Nesta signing with the Impact:

• A guest at Stade Saputo, last wednesday at the game vs Toronto FC, the ex AC Milan defender would have signed a contract with the Montreal Impact, according to the Corriere dello Sport. Rumors were sending him to Toronto FC but the Impact supposedly got into the race thanks to Marco Di Vaio's influence, a friend of Nesta.
