Known for its historical hockey team, the Montreal Canadiens or Habs, Montreal will be home for another Major League team: the Montreal Impact. Montreal has had a rich professional soccer history with the Montreal Manic of the 80's in the ''old NASL'' , the Montreal Supra in the Canadian Soccer League and less than 1 year ago, the NASL Montreal Impact.
This must be a dream come true for Montreal Impact owner, Joey Saputo that founded the club in 1992. And now the club is in the big leagues, the majors and we are not talking MLB but Major League Soccer.
Mount Royal Soccer seemed like a fitting name for the SBNation MLS Montreal Impact blog with the Mount Royal (Mont Royal) being a famous landmark with a cross as monument. The original cross was placed in 1643 by Paul Chomedey de Maisonneuve, the founder of the city, which explains its reference and importance on the Montreal Impact's jersey and marketing campaigns.
We hope at Mount Royal Soccer to be a hub of news, analysis and more about the Montreal Impact. We hope to offer a Haven of soccer in which we can exchange our passion for the beautiful game with you. This being year zero for the Montreal Impact, every practice, every game , every piece of news, every interview is historical for the club, for the fans, for the city.
Montreal now bleeds White, Black and Blue , a city that needs new heroes:
Bienvenue à la MLS, Bienvenue aux Big Leagues.
