Report: Marco Di Vaio to leave the Montreal Impact at the end of the season

Di Vaio set to call it quits at end of this season.

Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

A source close to the situation has advised me that Marco Di Vaio is likely to call it quits at the end of the 2014 MLS season. After months of speculation on whether he will prolong his MLS contract or not, Montreal Impact fans can enjoy Di Vaio for another 8 games (6 MLS + 2 CCL).

Ignacio Piatti's arrival and instant impact on the team re-ignited the hope that the new designated player would entice Di Vaio to stay longer. But the Italian striker's motivation is family-oriented and has never hidden the fact that it is hard for him to be away from his family. His wife and daughters moved back to Italy shortly after they arrived in Montreal for personal reasons.

It's neither a shock nor a surprise to hear that Di Vaio is hinging towards retirement and not renewing his experience in MLS with the Montreal Impact. Up until now, the club's first designated player scored 31 goals in 70 games.
