Even in triumph it seems, Montreal Impact cannot cut a break.

Fresh on the heels of their thrilling 3-2 success over DC United last evening, which guaranteed play-off football for the first time in four years, comes the news of Victor Wanyama’s call-up by the Kenyan national team.

The Harambee Stars have two African Nations’ Cup qualifiers, a double-header against Comoros, the tiny island nation that tops Group G, after a surprise win in Togo and draw at home to Egypt.

The games take place on the 11th and 15th November and effectively rule out Wanyama’s chances of playing against New England.

This development takes on added significance due to Sam Piette’s one-match suspension following his red card in added time in last evening’s match for a foul on Paul Arriola.

Piette and Wanyama have been the main-stays in midfield all season, and it looks like the Impact will be forced to engage in its first play-off experience in four years without both players.
