CF Montréal needs depth and what a better way to get some than by trade. As the font office has shown intra-MLS moves can prove very beneficial as it’s how the team has gone from mediocre to consistent threat at the top of the East.
It’s why I have found two players that can do just that and would not break the bank. A way to improve depth and chances at winning MLS Cup.
Marcelino Moreno
Moreno is an attacking midfielder that could fit snugly in MTL’s formation. From being a key piece early in his arrival, things are not so smooth anymore. He simply does not fit that Atlanta team anymore. It’s why Extratime Radio, MLS’s podcast, pondered out loud recently that he could be up for a trade in the league. Enter MTL, he could be had I’d imagine for some combo of TAM/GAM and if the total is around $500-600k, MTL should be all over that.
Playing next to Torres and being able to feed Quioto, Kamara or Toye it could prove a fruitful partnership. With two winger a 3-4-2-1 or a 3-4-1-2 could work well with Moreno in. It would add versatility and much more options for Wilfried Nancy to get more out of this team and maintain the two DP spots. Win-win.
David Ochoa

I know, I know, trading for a goalkeeper does not seem wise, but hear me out. Ochoa is in the doghouse in Salt Lake and he is incredibly talented. Add that he could probably be had for not a lot of funny money, TAM/GAM and we could have a real keeper competition.
Breza and Pantemis have not inspired much confidence and having competition would be good. Ochoa is good and can be great, but just adding another competent keeper could be what motivates any of the three to step up their game and really take the spot over. It makes sense if the money is right.
Thoughts on these two players?
