Sporting KC signs Justin Mapp, the first free agent in MLS history

Sporting Kansas City has signed veteran midfielder Justin Mapp, a veteran MLS midfielder that has left this mark on the Montreal Impact.

One of the newest fads in MLS, actual free agency, has finally been exercised by an ex-Montreal Impact player, Justin Mapp. The 2012 expansion draftee joined Montreal under the Jesse Marsch era and re-invented himself to reclaim his spot among the best offensive wingers in the league

He will be missed but a injury-ridden 2015 MLS season probably sealed his fate as per the club's salary cap requirements and budget for 2016. Though, we must not forget that Mapp was a free agent and going to back to the United States was probably important for the Mississippi native.

In 318 MLS games, Justin Mapp scored 23 goals and accumulated 70 assists. His work ethic and talent is definitely something Peter Vermes likes a lot but no matter what, any new KC player will need to adapt to the "Vermes way"

But at the end, as much as it is expected, it's still saddening to see such a talented player and soft-spoken person leave a club and a city that enjoys the tricksters and dribblers that make the game so fun to watch and cover.
