Marco Di Vaio to retire after MLS season

Richard Wolowicz

Ciao Marco

It  was not the best kept secret but it is now official. Marco Di Vaio has officially announced his retirement and will leave professional football as a Montreal Impact. The club's first ever Designated Player has marked the organization and its supporters.

A press conference will be held today at Stade Saputo after practice at 12:15 PM EST.

After a 20-year career, I am pleased to announce that I will be retiring in Montreal as a member of the Impact- Marco Di Vaio

Il Bomber is also an artist using his feet as brushes and strokes a masterpiece every weekend on the canvas called the pitch. MVP candidate in 2013, the 38-year old striker scored 31 goals in 72 games but his 20-goal tally in 2013 showed his true quality and silent leadership skills.

Di Vaio's final two home games at Stade Saputo will be on October 11  against the New England Revolution and on October 25 against D.C. United.

Joey Saputo

Everything we asked of Marco has been delivered. He accepted all the responsibilities that came with being a Designated Player. He was the first for this club and was the right choice. His quality and experience helped the team progress on the field, but he also helped the club with his wealth of knowledge off of it. He gained respect around the league and from its players, and it's very well deserved. We thank him for everything he's done for the club and the city.
