We still haven’t caught a glimpse of him in Montreal colours, but Djordje Mihailovic made some ripples yesterday at the Olympic qualifying tournament in Guadalajara.

The 22 year-old full international emerged from the bench in the 62nd minute for the USA u23s, who were making hard work of beating Dominican Republic.

The Americans broke the deadlock only on the hour mark through Saucedo, after squandering several opportunities.

Hasani Dotson soon added a second before Mihailovic rode a tackle on 72 mins then slipped the ball past a second defender to Dotson who finished to put the US 3-0 in front.
Not content with his assist, Mihailovic put the icing on top of the US cake by tapping home Benji Michel’s cross from the right, a first-ever goal at this level on his third cap.

This result and Costa Rica’s defeat qualifies the USA, along with Mexico, for the semi-finals. All that remains is to determine which of the countries top the group. They meet head on, Wednesday (24 March).
