Montreal Impact announced this morning that Finnish international Lassi Lappalainen would remain at the club until the end of 2021.

His current loan deal was due to run down on the last day of 2020, but this now assures another full season in MLS for the youngster.

“We are happy that Lassi stays with us for another year,” said the Impact sporting director Olivier Renard. “Despite suffering a few injuries, he proved again this year that he is an important part of the roster and helps the team by scoring goals in this league. His [shoulder] surgery went well two weeks ago and he will be available for the training camp in 2021. We wish him a speedy recovery.”

Since arriving on loan from Bologna in August 2019, Lappalainen has scored 9 goals (1 assist) in 15+9 MLS regular season games. He’s also played in 4 Canadian Championship games, a tournament he won in 2019, and in the MLS-is-Back round of 16 game.

He has 7 caps for Finland and played in both Champions League and Europa League qualifying for his previous slub, HJK Helsinki.
