It was a slow art to the day with Slovaks trying to smother the Swedes and guarantee the point they needed for progress. Wasn’t to be of course. The Swedes assumed command as the game wore on, finally gaining a late breakthrough from the penalty spot.

Croatia and Czech Republic played out a 1-1 stalemate, the Czechs benefitting from a dubious penalty decision before Perisic equalized for Croatia during their best spell in the early part of the second-half.

And the the big one.... With England hot favourites and strong fancies to all but eliminate their northern neighbours, the Scots almost turned the tables. The Scottish Lion was rampant again, as the dark blue shirts, more tenacious and committed, shaded the match, but couldn’t find a goal. the first-ever scoreless meeting of the sides at Wembley!
