As Olivier Renard and Thierry Henry continue to re-structure the playing squad, Montreal Impact announced this afternoon that options will not be exercised on four players who were with the club in 2020: Bojan, Steeven Saba, Shamit Shome, and Anthony Jackson-Hamel.

This of course doesn’t necessarily mean that all four players will be leaving. The Impact has merely decided not to exercise the current options on the table.

It also appears to be the end of the road in Montreal for Rod Fanni, Jukka Raitala and Jorge Corrales all of whose contracts end in 2020, with so far, no extensions offered, or at least not yet announced.

Orji Okwonkwo appears to be another player we should not expect to see at Stade Saputo in 2021. His loan deal from Bologna runs down at the end of the year, and with other loanees from the Italian club (Luis Binks and Lassi Lappalainen) already tied up and announced, it seems as though Orji is set for the exit door.

Options have been exercised for goalkeepers Clément Diop, James Pantemis and Jonathan Sirois, defender Karifa Yao, midfielders Clément Bayiha, Mathieu Choinière, Tomas Giraldo and Amar Sejdic, as well as forwards Romell Quioto and Mason Toye.

Remaining under contract for 2021 are defenders Zachary Brault-Guillard, Rudy Camacho, Keesean Ferdinand, Mustafa Kizza and Joel Waterman, midfielders Emanuel Maciel, Samuel Piette, Ballou Tabla and Victor Wanyama, as well as forward Maximiliano Urruti.

The Impact resumes action with the CONCACAF Champions League on December 16 when they take on CD Olimpia of Honduras in Orlando, in the second-leg of the quarter-final. If successful the semi-final will be on 19 December, with the final three days later.

All members of the 2020 playing squad remain under contract until year end and are eligible for the Champions League matches.
