Drogba refused to play after learning he was on the bench, says Mauro Biello

In arguably, the Impact’s biggest game of the season, Drogba refused to be on the gameday roster after learning he would start the game on the bench

In a hard-fought 2-2 tie, that clinched a playoff spot for the Montreal Impact against Toronto FC, the pre-game and post-game atmosphere was not all rainbows and marshmallows around the Bleu-Blanc-Noir.

Before announcing that the Ivorian striker was out due to a back injury, a report from RDS , 2 hours before the game, said that the player was not on the 18-man roster . Speculation ensued as reports were coming out that there was a falling out between the manager, Mauro Biello, and the ex-Chelsea striker.

During the post-game press conference, Biello started it by clearing the air and confirming reports that Drogba did not react well to being benched and asked not to be on the 18-man roster.

As we expect the club to make a decision on Drogba’s final days or weeks with the club, the Impact is officially in the MLS playoffs and will play their last game , against the New England Revolution next Sunday.
