Message "To the fans of Montreal:I'm here and I'm ready to work hard. Bonjour Montreal!"

There was a lot of speculation whether or not Frank Klopas would possibly trade up and swap picks with OCSC in order to get Canadian International Cyle Larin, but instead, he kept the 3rd pick and selected 20 year old University of Central Florida striker Romario Williams.

A native of Portmore, Jamaica, he is described by scouts and insiders as very fast and athletic, good at holding up the ball to create space for others as well as being good in 1v1 situations. With a Generation Adidas contract, his salary will not count against the cap.

He was a member of the Jamaican U-17 squad and has already received call ups to the senior team. His career at UCF was very good, finishing with 17g & 5a over the last 2 years.

His addition will be a welcomed one to a team that is so thin up top, and unless there are more deals to come, he could very well be given every opportunity to make the first team. With only Jack McInerney really ahead of him on the depth chart (at the moment) . it is not out of the realm of possibility that Romario could find himself playing first team minutes to start the season.

A couple things that stood out for me during his speech was his excitement and passion. "I knew they were interested in me from the get-go...I'm ecstatic" he also went on to send a message to the fans "To the fans of Montreal:I'm here and I'm ready to work hard. Bonjour Montreal!"

To the newest member of the Montreal Impact I say....Welcome to Montreal Romario! One Love!

The Impact has the 3rd overall pick in this year draft. After Wenger, Smith and Miller, who will be the 1st round pick for Montreal? In my opinion Khiry Shelton is a no-brainer for them.

If you asked me a couple of weeks ago who Frank Klopas should pick in this year draft, my answer would have been different. Since the biggest problem of the team was on defence, my choice would have been either Ramon Martin Del Campo or Skylar Thomas because they are big and solid defenders.

But with the recent signing of Bakary Soumare and Victor Cabrera along with defensive midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker and Marco Donadel, I think it’s pretty fair to say that Montreal needs a forward. The best available forward, during SBNation's MLS Mock Draft, will be Khiry Shelton.

Shelton is the second best forward available to this year draft. I think Cyle Larin is #1 and it’s almost 100% guaranteed that he will be picked first. On almost every mock draft around the league, he is regarded a #1 pick.

So the question is: Why Khiry Shelton at #3?

Simple, because of the versatility he brings on the field.

First of all he is 6’3 and our main striker is only 5’10 in Jack McInerney so it’s something different. When Klopas played Marco Di Vaio and McInerney on the field at the same time, there was some chemistry problems because ,in my opinion , the two players had the same style and the same attributes.

I’m not saying that both were at the same level but the skills they bring to the field are on the same page. That’s why I think Shelton is a great fit for Montreal because with his height, he brings something different and that’s pretty important.

The head game is a problem for Montreal since their MLS debut so with a striker that tall, it gives another option to the midfielders or lateral defenders (fullbacks) who can cross the ball. This also makes the defense adjust to him and to the versatility he brings. Putting doubts in your opponent's mind usually helps in creating scoring chances.

That’s what versatility brings on the field and Shelton is that kind of player.

Also when we look closer at his stats from last year, it shows something pretty interesting. In 18 games, he scored 9 goals along with 12 assists. He can shoot and distribute the ball to someone else. He also put 30 shots on goal out of 54 shots taken. That's good for a percentage of 55.5%.

That's why the Impact and their management should take Shelton in this year draft like I've done for the SBNation MLS Mock Draft. They can't pass the chance to get a 6'3 striker even if they bring someone who can play the Violin from "Italia".

Andy Craven (attaquant)

Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports

Is Oumar Ballo a good fit for the Impact?

The MLS Superdraft will take place on January 15th in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After a disaster 2014 season the Montreal Impact will have the 3rd overall pick after the two expansion teams: Orlando and New York City. Although the Impact put a lot of emphasis on their Academy players, the MLS Superdraft is still an important avenue for clubs to improve.

What do the Impact need?

Although Montreal currently have a plethora of midfielders, they are very thin at the back. With the departure of both Matteo Ferrari and Heath Pearce the Impact are in desperate need of fresh defenders. Last year the Impact made a good pick with Eric Miller and selecting another big physical defender could be in the cards.

A New "Big O" in Town?

So who could this big defender be? One of the top defenders that is slated to go in the 2015 draft will be Oumar Bello also known as the "Big O". The defender from UMBC is 6'2 and described as, "athletic, tall, strong in the air and always first to 50/50 balls" by one MLS scout. These traits could be a huge boon to an Impact team that has been abysmal on set pieces over the last few seasons.

The same MLS scout noted that, "He's got really good speed and good reactions". Klopas has claimed that he wants to get faster and more athletic at the back and drafting a player with the profile of Ballo could be just what the Impact need. Although the Impact have not gone after defenders during the off-season to this point, the draft is an opportunity to change this.

Another interesting point to consider is Ballo's longevity. Going into 2013 Ballo had started 42 straight games for UMBC. Alex Schaffer of BennettRank states that, "He never leaves the pitch for UMBC, he is their talisman". For an Impact team that has gone through a torrent of injuries at the back (see Rivas / Lopez) having a workhorse at the back would be a welcome change.

Although Adam Braz has his work cut out for him re-building the backline, the "Big O" could be an important first step in the right direction.
