Jesse Marsch steps down as head coach of the Impact

Jean-Yves Ahern-US PRESSWIRE

After only one season in charge, Jesse Marsch announced today he has stepped down as the head coach of the Impact

The Montreal Impact yesterday announced a press conference for a bit of big news and today we got it. Jesse Marsch is out as the head coach of the Impact after one season in charge of the expansion club.

Marsh stepped to the podium this morning and made this announcement,

"Good morning everyone, I'm leaving the club by mutual agreement"

Montreal President Joey Saputo says decision was "made mutually for the benefit of the club." Needless to say, that sentence is going to spawn a great deal of theoretical discussion.

When asked if there was a rift between him and Marco Di Vaio, Marsch said he preferred not to comment.

This was Marsch's first ever head coaching job and he led the Impact to a seventh place finish in the Eastern Conference with a 12-16-6 record. Compared to some first year teams, it wasn't a bad season at all and the Impact were in the playoff hunt until late in the season. The former MLS player and US international also spent time as an assistant coach on Bob Bradley's USMNT staff from 2010-11.

There has to be more to this story, but for the moment we'll have to wait until more information comes out.
