The Montreal Impact pick at #8 in the 2013 MLS Mock Draft : Patrick Mullins

Jamie Squire

With the college season coming to an end , TopDrawerSoccer.com released its first mock draft for the 2013 MLS Superdraft.

The 2012 NCAA Men's Soccer tournament underway, the college experts (and more) at Top Drawer Soccer release their initial Mock Draft for 2013.

Top Drawer Soccer predicts

8 Patrick Mullins * Maryland F 6-1 172
The ACC Offensive Player of the Year has come a long way in his three seasons at Maryland. With the ability to play up front and on the wings, Mullins’ versatility is one of many reasons Montreal snatch him here.

The versatile profile of Patrick Mullins makes him an interesting pick for most teams. The biggest question would be on the actual need of the Montreal Impact at draft time. With the uncertainty of who the new coach/manager will be, the needs of the club in the MLS SuperDraft are still unclear. If there were philosophical differences between Jesse Marsch and Joey Saputo/Nick De Santis, will that be reflected in player choices as deep as the draft?

Only time will tell and who will be the new Montreal Impact head coach, but most importantly how clear the Impact philosophy will be drawn out in the next weeks and months.

At the time the post is being written, there was no confirmation whether the Montreal Impact is getting the 13th or 18-19th pick. We assume it will be the bottom 1st round pick.

The Montreal Impact has Houston's first round pick from the Brian Ching trade. Depending on the Houston Dynamo's playoff run, Montreal will either get the 18th or 19th pick in the first round. Making it in the MLS Cup Final, automatically ranks Houston's pick at 18th or 19th.

The last two mock picks and their orders predicted by TDS are also below

18 Blake Smith New Mexico MF 5-10 150
Dom Kinnear loves his wingers, and Smith offers a direct attacking threat with his ability to get behind the defense and whip in crosses.

19 Joe Franco CSUN D 5-9 150
Franco could be the next Sean Franklin...alright, it is a long shot given the differences between the two, but the Northridge product is a solid outside back with decent skill.
